- 2600 years ago, there were two kingdoms, Panchal and Konsal. 600 years ago, this district was also added to them and then it became Jaunpur Sultanate.
Jaunpur sultanate :-
The Jaunpur Sultanate was a mediaeval Indian Muslim state that ruled much of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar between 1394 and 1494.
- Then came the Mughals and this district got separated from it and it was named the province of Awadh.
Mughals :-
The Mughals were the descendants of two great ruling dynasties. On his mother’s side, he was the successor of Genghis Khan, the Mongol ruler of China and Central Asia (who died in 1227). On his father’s side, he was a descendant of Taimur (who died in 1404), the ruler of Iran, Iraq and present-day Türkiye. But the Mughals did not like to be called Mughals or Mongols.
- Then the British came and the North Western Province was formed next to it. Then both of them united and the United Province was formed, from then on it started calling it ‘Doop’.
North western provinces:-
The North-Western Provinces was an administrative region in British India. The North-Western Province was established in 1836, by combining the administrative divisions of the ceded and conquered provinces.
- After independence, its name finally became Uttar Pradesh. In 2000, Uttarakhand was separated from Uttar Pradesh and then our present day Uttar Pradesh was born.
Several cities in Uttar Pradesh have undergone name changes in recent years.

- Allahabad was renamed to Prayagraj in 2018.
- Faizabad was renamed to Ayodhya in 2018.
- Meerut had some discussions regarding its name change, though it is not as prominent as the others.
These name changes were made to highlight the historical, cultural, and religious significance of the cities. While these two changes (Allahabad to Prayagraj and Faizabad to Ayodhya) have been the most prominent, there have been talks of renaming other cities as well.
