How many post are there in UPSC:-

How many major exams are there for UPSC ? 

UPSC Civil Service Examination is conducted in three stages. In the first stage, one has to pass the prelims i.e. preliminary examination. It is necessary for UPSC candidates to pass all these three stages to become a bureaucrat.

“Prelims Exams” :- 

The UPSC preliminary exam pattern consists of two papers: General Studies Paper 1 and Civil Services Aptitude Test or GS Paper 2. GS Paper 1 assesses the candidate’s understanding of various subjects including History, Geography, Politics etc., while CSAT evaluates the logical reasoning and analytical skills of the candidate.

The GS I paper in UPSC Prelims exam consists of subjects from History, Geography, Economy, Politics and Governance, General Science and Current Affairs. Which subject is compulsory for UPSC Prelims? Compulsory subjects in UPSC Prelims are Indian Polity and Governance, General Science, History, Geography, Economic and Social Development etc.

“Mains Exam”:- 

It is conducted in three stages: a preliminary examination, a UPSC Mains exam—consisting of nine papers of traditional (essay) type, with two papers being qualifying and marks of only seven being calculated followed by an interview.

There are a total of 9 papers in the UPSC Mains exam. 

All of these are quite descriptive. While preparing for UPSC Mains 2024, you should have complete knowledge of the exam pattern and marking scheme. The 9 papers of UPSC Mains include 4 GS, 1 Essay, 2 Language and 2 Optional subjects.

There are about 50 subjects in the UPSC Civil Services Examination
